PUCP’s legal clinic implements first “DNI for children: Why? When? How?” workshop

On November 17, the Right to Personal Identity Section of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú – PUCP [Pontifical Catholic University of Peru]’s Legal Clinic, advised by Miranda & Amado, implemented their First Workshop entitled “DNI for Children: Why? When? How?” for the San Juan de Lurigancho Children’s Workshop.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness and disseminate the importance of newborns having a national identity document to access services and exercise their rights, as well as a name to build their identity.  It was attended by participants of the Red Mami [Mommy Network] program for teen moms.

This activity is the first of its kind and was developed by students at the Clinic who, starting this semester, will design and develop right-to-identity-related workshops.  After preparing the contents, materials, and dynamics jointly with Clinic advisors (i.e., the professor in charge and M&A lawyers), students will implement a workshop at the end of each semester.

In its first edition, students were advised by Juan Carlos Girao and Pedro Díaz, both M&A associates who participated as speakers and consultants on the workshop’s design and information presentation techniques.

The Right to Personal Identity Section of the Legal Clinic is a subject developed with the purpose of integrating PUCP students in the process of empowering the people and building a legal culture around the right to personal identity.  Miranda & Amado contributes to the development of this subject and provides legal advice.
